Sustainable Communities Initiative Project The Sustainable Communities Initiatives program (SCI), is a combined initiative between Natural Resources Canada, and other federal, provincial and local governments whose mandate is to bring on-line decision making tools to Aboriginal, rural and northern communities in Canada. The program provides the opportunity for communities to become equipped with geospatial tools, useful for monitoring natural resources for better management practices.. The Coalition Sustainable Communities Initiative Project elaborated in partnership with NRCan as of January 2002 now includes six communities. The communities of Miramichi (MREAC), Bathurst (BSDP), Tracadie(CEPA), Badeque(BBEMA), Montague(SEA), and the Magdalene Islands (ZIP) all benefit from the help of the Coalition GIS Mentor, Inuk Simard, in their projects to become more sustainable. More communities might add themselves to this project in the following months depending on funding and further agreements with NRCan(SCI). Web Page Project We have a new web page up and running and we’ll be adding more stuff to it as time goes by. On the menu is an interactive database that is compatible with most browsers and operational systems and a discussion forum that is totally incorporated to the site itself. On top of that the site will be regularly updated while maintaining the ease of navigability of the site. All our E-News prints will be pasted to the website itself for greater consistency and sustainability (saving trees). |
